Jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, conductor and Stanford University graduate Tom Harrell is often described as a "pure melodic genius". Apart from his 27 albums and hundreds of concerts as a frontman, the Illinois-born trumpeter has worked with the greatest names in jazz. He is on tour this year with an innovative sextet, "Colors of a Dream", refining even further the "piano-less" concept: a trumpet, two saxophones, two basses (one of them also a singer) and drums. We have Wayne Escoffery, Ugonna Okegwo and Jonathan Blake, three regular members of his quintet, and two newcomers: alto saxophonist Jaleel Shaw and the mesmerizing Esperanza Spalding playing bass and singing.
Recording: Jazz à Vienne
