Salif Keita Acoustic at the Carreau du Temple, Paris
The "Golden voice of Africa" was the first artist to perform at the Carreau du Temple, a "new" Parisian venue, recently reopened after years of neglect.
The inaugural concert, recorded on Friday 25 April 2014, was the perfect alliance of diverse cultures, carried by the high and powerful voice of this adoptive "griot" - Salif Keita is a direct descendent of the Mali Empire's founder, Soundiata Keita - and a historical landmark, elegantly restored. Glass, cast iron, brick and wood have given a new life to this former market hall, whose Eiffel-style nineteenth century metallic structure is so typically Parisian.
A historical venue and an artist who has freed himself from tradition and follows his own path.
